Let's learn about the UN Study on Violence against Children

The Study process:

2001 The General Assembly of the United Nations requests the Secretary-General to conduct a study on violence against children and adolescents in the world.  The person in charge is Professor Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro (I'm this gentleman just here).

2005 A survey involving children, adolescents, non-governmental and state agencies, travels across the world asking about the places where violence against children occurs, the forms it takes, and the alternative actions to stop it.

2006 Professor Paulo Pinheiro delivers the final report of the Study.  The document describes the nature and extent of the problem, where it happens and what are the risk and protective factors.  He also says what and how we can do (12 recommendations) to achieve actual changes towards a world free of violence against children and adolescents.

2009 As the report recommended, a Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on violence against children and adolescents, Marta Santos Pais is appointed and everyone is very happy because she knows a lot about the subject.  Her mission is to be the global advocate for the end of violence against children.
