The Special Representative
Who is a Special Representative?
A Special Representative is someone who is appointed by the Secretary General. Their role is to help understand and improve a situation.
For example: there are Special Representatives for both country and thematic issues, such as: a Special Representative for the Sudan; a
Special Representative for Food Security and Nutrition and a Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict.
It is a Special Representative’s role to:
-gather information and research to understand the issue in detail
-meet with people, governments, partners and non-governmental organizations to understand concerns and explore solutions
-provide recommendations and actions needed to make the situation
better.
